![]() A couple folks have asked this question because they know that I have downloaded data and created economic listings in the past. I happy to see friends Bob and Lorie Michaels, and their Winchester Place Thoroughbreds LLC, off to a hot start. They lead the early standings this year with earnings per start of $8,466. As you know if you visited this site before, earnings per start is the best proxy for understanding stable profitability. I estimate Minnesota owner stables have to generate at least $3,000 per start to approach break even positions on their overall run rate costs, unless the owner is also the trainer and they do not realize labor costs in the same way the most owners do. As you can see some stables are not off to a great start but remember, many of the higher purse stakes races, and over 3 months, remain in our racing season. As always, feel free to come here for Minnesota racing and breeding data meaning. You can find opinions and contrived stories everywhere else.

The top owner stables are doing well this year. They are properly maintaining their horse's health. This is a very good sign for the future of the horse racing industry. I'm sure that they'll receive a lot more accomplishments in the future. As long as they continue their improvement, they'll have no problem being successful.
