Time To Start Track Training For Canterbury

While breeding season in Minnesota has just started, real preparation for the Minnesota racing season begins in our stable. We are getting papers and transport ready to ship our stable down to Hawthorne racetrack so our horses are "track ready" for the Minnesota racing season.

At Hawthorne they are able to get out on a properly manicured "real" racetrack and slowly build up to speed work in a safe track environment. This year it is even more important to have your stable properly prepared for Minnesota racing because Canterbury has returned to being open for live racing on the first Saturday in May (Kentucky Derby Weekend)!

Canterbury once was open on Derby Weekend, and by going back to opening sooner not only does Minnesota pick up a typically huge live racing audience but also a great wagering handle.

Our Minnesota bred Astar Lindquist stable will include last years Oaks winner in 4 year old Blazing Angel, but also winners and consistent earners in 5 year olds Victory Ice and PJ's Angel. We also will be running one baby, if he shows us he is ready, in 2 year old Twin Cities Magic. We have high hopes for him, as does everybody who has a 2 year old of course. "Magic" is the result of us breeding Stormy Business for the first time to a Brilliant Speed Pedigree Dosage* mare, who was sired by world recognized sprinter and sire Speightstown. Almost all of our past breeding to Stormy Business has produced horses that have won at sprint distances but are often proven better at two turns.

We will also have one Astar Thoroughbreds stable horse, 3 year old AJ's Angel, who burst onto the scene by winning his first maiden special race last year. Unfortunately after that he had a few nagging issues and ended the season sore and a bit shiny. He might have a very nice 3 year old season after be well rested, maturing, getting to go two turns, and feeling great now.

Should be another exciting season and it's already time to get serious about it my friends.
